Terms of service
Last updated 21 August 2026. These are the terms for CartPass, run by Serious Studios Limited, a New Zealand company. By creating an account, buying a report, or subscribing to monitoring, you agree to them.
What CartPass is
CartPass helps online stores see how well AI shopping agents can shop on their site.
A scan sends real AI shopping agents through a store. They try to find a product, pick a variant, add it to the cart, and reach checkout. We record how far they get. Scans are read-only. Agents stop at the payment screen. They never place an order or enter payment details.
A report is the write-up of one scan. You get a free summary at an unlisted link. The paid full report (a one-off purchase) shows every step, screenshot, and suggested fix.
Monitoring is a subscription. We re-scan a store you have claimed on a schedule and show how the results change over time. Results are evidence, not a guarantee. AI agents are non-deterministic and stores change. A pass does not mean any agent or platform will buy from the store. A fail does not mean they will not. Our recommendations are not legal, security, or compliance advice.
Your account
You need an email and password to create an account. One human per account. No bot-created accounts.
You are responsible for everything that happens under your account. If you think someone else has access, tell us straight away at hello@cartpass.ai.
Claiming a store
You can claim a store domain. You must operate that store or be authorised by the operator.
We check claims manually. We can refuse or revoke a claim. A false claim ends your account. We may also tell the real store operator.
What you allow us to do on your store
When you ask for a scan or claim a store, you authorise our crawler (CartPassBot) to:
- browse the store
- search
- open product pages
- choose variants
- add items to the cart
- start checkout
- fill forms using synthetic identities whose emails end in
@cartpass.ai
Agents stop before payment. They never complete a purchase or enter real payment details.
You are responsible for any side effects in your own systems. That includes abandoned-cart emails, short inventory holds, and fraud flags. Tell your team and your bot-defence vendor that our agents will be visiting.
We also scan public pages of stores nobody has asked us to scan. We do this to keep our market picture current. Those scans honour robots.txt and stop on request. Details are on our contact page.
Paying
Prices and currency appear at checkout. Payment is taken by a third-party payment processor. Any tax that applies (such as GST) is shown before you pay.
A full report unlocks as soon as payment succeeds.
Monitoring is billed at the start of each period until you cancel. You manage billing through the portal in your account. If we change the price of an existing subscription, we will email you at least 30 days ahead.
Refunds and cancellation
If a scan fails for a reason on our side (our systems errored or the agents never reached the store), we will re-run it or give a full refund.
If the store blocked the agents, that is the result. It is not a failed scan.
If you are unhappy for any other reason, email us within 14 days. We will sort it out, usually with a refund.
You can cancel monitoring at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for. There are no further charges. If we charge you by mistake after you cancelled, we will refund it on request.
Your report
You may share a report inside your organisation and with the agency, developer, or platform that is fixing the issues.
You may not resell the report, publish it in full, or present it as your own independent assessment.
What is ours and what is yours
We own the CartPass service, our methodology, scoring, and report design.
You own your store and its content.
You grant us permission to capture and keep screenshots and page content from your store so we can produce and maintain the report and for aggregate research. We may publish anonymised, aggregated findings. We will not name a store without asking first.
Changes, and ending things
We may change or retire features. If a change materially affects something you have already paid for, we will notify you first.
We may suspend or close accounts for breach of these terms, false claims, or misuse of the service or anyone's store.
You may close your account by emailing us. How we handle your data is set out in our privacy policy.
Our liability
The service is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, we have no liability for indirect or consequential loss, including lost sales, profits, or data. Our total liability is capped at the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
If you acquired the service for business purposes, the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 is excluded under section 43. The parties agree this is fair and reasonable.
Nothing in these terms excludes rights that the Fair Trading Act 1986 or any other law says cannot be excluded.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any formal dispute will be handled in the New Zealand courts.
Before taking any formal step, you must email us and give us 30 days to try to resolve the issue.
